August 30, 2009AM Colossians 1:26, 27 Colossal Answers
Welcome to the Museum. This is not a “Ripley’s Believe It Or Not” Museum. This is not a Museum filled with half truths or question marks. This is not a Make-Believe Museum. It is not a place of replicas and artificial exhibits. It is not something fictitious displaying cunningly crafted replicas. It is not just amusement. What is Museum 12627? Museum 12627 is not amusement, it is amazing. Museum 12627 is not trivia, it is truth. Museum 12627 is not artificial, it is authenticity. Museum 12627 is not fiction, it is fact. Museum 12627 is not Make-Believe, it is Totally Believable. Museum 12627 is not question marks, it is Colossal Answers. Here you find the answers to your most pressing questions? Who Am I? Is There More to Life Than This? Am I Loveable? Am I Of Value? Why Am I Here? These are the great mysteries of life. Museum 12627 addresses those mysteries. Look at Colossians 12627. Back several months ago I preached a series of sermons from Colossians. It was entitled, The Power to Be Like Christ. We saw how God Colossally works in our lives with Deliverance, Hope, Life. You can find that entire series of sermons on our website to review them. But during that series, for some reason, I missed Colossians 12627. As the conclusion to our VBS we need to return to Colossians. Look at 1:26,27 (READ). It tells us about the mystery hidden for ages and generations. In the Museum we looked at 5 Scriptures from God’s Word. These Scriptures answer the big questions of life.
Question 1: Who Am I? Genesis 1:27 gives you the answer. “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” God Created You! That is part of God’s Plan. He formed you. He breathed into you the breath of life. He created you in His own image. You are not an accident. Circumstances around your birth, your childhood do not determine who you are. Who are you? You are God’s precious creation. He created you and gave you life. That is what we learned at the creation site. God made or inspired everything you see except for one thing. God did not create graves. We came up with the idea of graves all on our own. We had to because we rejected God. We excluded Him. Who are you? You are God’s creation. But you are also a sinner because you have rejected God. The wages of sin is death. God wants to give life. He breathed life into us. The sin that separates us from Him does not make God reject you. You are precious to Him.
Question 2: Is There More to Life Than This? Museum 12627 answers that question. Another Scripture in the Museum was Nahum 1:7. “The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.” God Helps You! That is part of God’s Plan. We never need to live life on our own. We can always depend on God’s presence and help. We can rely on God. In God’s presence, every day and every experience is transformed. Yes life confronts us with challenges. We experience the loss from living in a sin-ravaged world. But we do not need to just go through the motions of living. We do not need to feel in a rut. We can find significance in everything we do. We can make an eternal difference in each day because of God’s care. God’s presence injects eternity into everything we do. Everything becomes worthwhile. There is no futility in a life that trusts in God.
Question 3: Am I Loveable? Museum 12627 answers that question by looking at Deuteronomy 7:9. “Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands.” God Loves You! That is part of God’s Plan. He not only created you. He not only helps you. God loves you with an everlasting love. There is nothing conditional about His love for you. This is the bold truth. For as long as you experience His breath, you can count on His love. God faithfully loves you. He loves you so much that He wants to know your love in return. He invites you into a covenant of love with Him that lasts forever.
Question 4: Am I Of Value? Look at 1 Peter 3:18. “For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit,” God Embraces You! That is part of God’s Plan. Jesus is God reaching out arms of love to draw you to Himself. The answer to the mystery is that Jesus can be in you. You are so valuable to God that He sacrificed His own Son Jesus. Jesus died on the cross. The cross was really an altar. Jesus is the precious gift God gives to you. He is the One who brings you to God. By His death and exaltation He unveils the mystery. He died for your sins. The Righteous for the unrighteous. Never think that you are of no value. You are precious in God’s sight. You are His treasure. That is the value that God sees in you.
Question 5: Why Am I Here? Museum 12627 gives the answer to our last question. We visited the site that found the answer to that mystery. Read Acts 1:8 with me. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” God Empowers You! That is part of God’s Plan. That is your purpose in life. You are not here to build a bank account. You are not here to gather fame and fortune. You are not here to chase after things that rust away. You are here to be God’s witness. There is no more noble calling than to reveal the mystery. God has given His Holy Spirit to His children to tell others the answer. You are here to be prepared for eternity. You are here to help others prepare for eternity. Jesus is the answer to the questions of life. And you are given the wonderful privilege of sharing Him with the world. The mystery that God wants you to know is that Jesus can be in you. Jesus is the centre and the circumference of the mystery. And He wants to dwell in you. He is able to dwell in you because you are created in God’s image. And He wants you to be part of His plan to reach a lost world with His love.
